Budget Friendly Decor Ideas
As I mentioned over on the ‘Gram’ yesterday there are multiple ways that we can get fun, creative and charasimatic spaces without having to spend a bomb. Lots of people have budgets that they wish were a little bigger, I mean lets be real we aren’t all billionaires! But these tips will help you save pennies in places so you can maximise your budget in others. They will also help you design a home that showcases who you are. The interiors I enjoy creating are character filled and show personality and style so I love seeing people have unique and quirky items in their home.
Our lives are filled to capacity with curated images and I believe you can easily get lost in feeling like beautiful homes are unattainable, however this simply isn’t true.
It is important to have a concept for the space before you go buying willy nilly, or changing things just cos, so think about how you want the space to feel or if there is an aesthetic you are drawn too. Once you have that clear in your mind (or paper) then you can start.
Here are my tips on how to be budget friendly;
Find vintage stores, Op shops and Second Hand stores and search for the treasures in them. There may be hidden gems such as vases, bowls, platters, glassware, old frames or even paintings, unique furniture or furniture that just needs a little love. These pieces are one offs and really add a statement to your home.
Be creative with what you display on your walls. Art is one of my all time favourite things however it can be out of the question for lots of people, so instead you could frame puzzles, images out of coffee table books, black and white photos (old or new), prints bought on Etsy, kids drawings or even old maps.
If you want to add a personal touch to your home a fragrance is a great way to go. Investing in a diffuser or a really beautiful scented candle won’t blow your budget but it will leave people with a last memory of what it feels like to be in your home.
Paint an item to give it new life. This is probably a more time consuming option however furniture can literally transform before your eyes with a coat of paint in a completely new colour. My only tip for this is to do your research to make sure you are priming properly to make sure the new colour lasts.
Get on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree and all your local waste not want not, buy swap sell pages. People are always selling pieces of furniture they don’t want anymore. So not only is this get for the environment as we reduce landfill but great for your pockets.
Books for styling - go to Lifeline book stores and sales. Books always look good when styled however that can be super expensive and the ones you want to read don’t always have the cover you want. So going to Lifeline book stores give you flexibility to buy cheaper books closer to your aesthetic needs.
Think outside the square. Often what we are after could already be found in our house, for example the empty wine bottles could be used as a vase, the side table in the lounge room could be a bedside table when you change your bedding style. The rug that was once in the lounge might be perfect for the kiddies bedroom. Hang your hats on the wall like they are a piece of art…. The options are endless. Don’t be scared to use pieces in different spaces or in ways that aren’t typical to their purpose.
Everyone loves to have fresh blooms however again they can be costly if you are buying new flowers every week. However you might have a plant in your garden that has beautiful leaves, snip them off and use them to add some greenery.
There are many more ways to be budget friendly, without having to do a million DIY projects so I challenge you, when you think you can’t afford something to think outside the square of how else you could complete your space. Honestly the world is your oyster.
