2023 and design trends to expect….

Welcome to 2023. The blog part of my website has always been the part I find the hardest to maintain even though it is the best way to share relevant and inspiring content with my readers. So 2023 will be the year I aim to keep the inspiration flowing. This will give you insight into where and how I find my inspiration and creativity, it will range from interiors to fashion, food, and anything else that grabs my attention along the way.

I wanted to start with the “trends” that we expect to see across the year…..

1/ Thrifting and Vintage Finds.

This trend is on the up and for good reason - not only can you find beautiful unique and different pieces but it is great for the circular economy. One of the main beliefs is that everyone can have a beautiful home so leaning into thrifting can open up a world of beautiful furniture, décor and fashion at a reasonable price point.

Interest is starting to peak into Mid-Century Modern styling again, so incorporating the layers of old and new into your home creates an interesting but also on-trend interior, which will last the test of time due to the traditional pieces.

2/ Merging of Inside and Outside.

People are really embracing the idea of merging the inside and outside and how these spaces can operate as one. We have experienced the importance of having multifunctional dynamic spaces when everyone was stuck at home in lockdown and now we are taking to using those experiences as inspiration. As we should! Drawing on our history, surroundings and past experiences makes for comprehensive and deep design concepts. When we look at fashion, I believe that the merging of the vacation/holiday styles is the want to incorporate the way structured life can integrate with the more relaxed elements of everyday life.

3/ Nods to Eclectic and Maximalist Style.

The idea of mixing styles such as the maximalist more is more and merging design elements aims to create playful, unique and comfortable homes. It allows for flexibility and fluidity between spaces. I often hear that people don’t want their spaces to date but when you are working with an eclectic or maximalist style the flexibility allows for small changes (such as a new feature piece, a change of spatial arrangements or a wall colour) to update the spaces. We are looking to the nods of these trends as so picking out the elements of these styles and using them in our homes, but I think the main takeaway is that we are moving into spaces that encapsulate personality, character, history and storytelling rather than being so concern about how the house may look upon selling.

4/ Eco Materials.

We are heading more and more in the direction of eco-materials. Our choices are becoming more informed and this is allowing us to open our eyes to the discovery of new and interesting materials. Materials such as cork, and hemp are certainly on the rise as are other materials that have a better sustainability rating. I will do another blog post that highlights some of these fabulous materials and their properties.

5/ Full on COLOUR!

This is certainly a trend that I love and hope to see really embraced. We are seeing a trend in the use of colour being used across multiple surfaces such as walls, cornices, ceilings and skirtings or the way colour can be integrated between walls and cabinetry. I will admit this can be a tricky one to perfect and there are multiple considerations HOWEVER paint is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to transform a space so if you’re looking for WOW factor changing the colour can have maximum effect.

Personally, I find all these trends exciting and inspiring, they are allowing spaces to transition into more detailed and comfortable spaces than we have seen for a while in the interior space. The way colour, patterns and unique pieces are being embraced and nurtured in spaces is refreshing. Like all trends, however, they don’t need to be embraced completely if you don’t resonate with them what you can use trends for is to gauge what you do love (or hate) from them and integrate that element into your style.

If this blog has inspired you to update or refresh your interiors but you still feel overwhelmed or stuck, please reach out and we can discuss the ways in which we could work together to create your dream home.
