There’s nothing boring about Beige.
There is nothing boring about beige, and it certainly has made a comeback. We have moved past the trend of grey and cooler-toned interiors and exteriors and you have probably heard that people are looking to make their homes feel warmer and more comfortable and for this reason, beiges have become popular once again.
Now I don’t tend to follow trends especially when it comes to colours because there are too many other factors that need to be taken into consideration, HOWEVER, beiges are actually a fabulous neutral group that accommodates different tones and colours.
Beiges, like most neutral, come in many forms. They have a range of undertones that make them all unique and perfect for a range of spaces. They are warm and depending on the intensity of tone can be mistaken for white when they are toned down, though this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This means that beige can inject some serious comfort and mood into the space without it being the dominant colour.
The way I like to work with neutral is the way I like to work with whites. Determine what undertones work with current flooring/ hard surfaces (or new surfaces if they are going to be installed) by using a4 swatches in full strength to sample the colours you are looking at to see them next to hard surfaces. The other materials will help draw out the undertones. You can then explore the appropriate toned beige ( this could be green, orange, pink, yellow, gold and grey undertoned beige) and then play with tone levels ( full, half or quarter strengths). Beiges can change significantly in different lights, so those A4 sample swatches will be a lifesaver for you to understand how the colour will change during different times of the day or in different areas of the house.
Although it’s changing all the time some of my favourite beiges are;
Dulux Buff it
Dulux Light Rice
Dulux Beige Calm
Haymes Quarry Beige
Haymes Natural Milk
Haymes Warm Blush
So although “beige” gets a bad wrap, I’m here to tell you it is actually one of the best neutrals to look at in your home (or your wardrobe) to create warmth, and comfort, beige is a classic neutral so the look fabulous in traditional style houses, but also looks fabulous in a modern home that has other rich finishes and colours as well as being a perfect neutral to add into your white scheme to give it some depth and tone.
The possibilities are endless!
